ALERT Banquet…Closes the 2021 Symposium/Conference
Each ALERT Training Symposium/Conference concludes with a Banquet. During the banquet the Z-Man Award and the Bruce Cabral Scholarship are presented to each recipient. Then the evening festivities conclude with the Conference Scholarship Raffle. The attendees support the Scholarship Fund by presenting various departmental and personal items/articles that are raffled off to generate funds for the Bruce Cabral Scholarship fund.
We were honored to have Sgt. (ret) Sean “Sticks” Larkin, Tulsa Police Department as our keynote speaker. Sgt. Larkins during his 25-year career with Tulsa PD worked various divisions, including patrol, Street Crimes, Major Crimes, Homicide, Narcotics, SWAT, Gang Unit and the Crime Gun Unit. He was also the host of Live PD Presents: PD Cam. Sgt. Larkins also authored the book–“Breaking Blue, Real Life Stories of Cops Falsely Accused”.
Z-Man Award is presented on an annual basis for the best innovative idea in Police Driver Training during the past year. Innovative ideas could be as simple as methods reducing the student to instructor ratio during training, strategies utilized to increase training time or the combining of driver training with other training such as officer safety or firearms.
The 2021 Z-Man Award was presented to Deputy Shannon Lofland, Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office. Congratulations to Deputy Lofland.
ALERT International provides an educational scholarship each year to a son/daughter of an ALERT member.
The recipient must be a graduating senior, have a scholastic average of at least a B, or 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and plan to attend a college, university, trade or business school. This year’s recipient of the Bruce Cabral Scholarship is Maddox DeVault, daughter of Trooper Ryan DeVault, Iowa State Patrol.
Maddox will be graduating from Nodaway Valley High School, Greenfield, Iowa next May. She has not selected the college she will be attending, but is hopeful to attend a college where she can pursue her lifelong dream of playing collegiate basketball.
